Maya error could not add constraint or connections

Am in the process of making tiny modifications to an existing rig. I deleted an aim constraint from a joint. Now when I try to add a aim constraint with different parameters, I get this error - could not add constraint or connections. No matter what parameters/settings I change, the error remains the same, and no constraint is added. Please help

Some errors in Maya are not very informative !

This particular error could possibly be because some of the channels on the object which you are constraining are locked. If they are locked, then unlock them. Since you are adding an Aim constraint, make sure that all 3 rotation channels are unlocked. ... Hope that helps

Yes, that was exactly the problem. Once I unlocked the rotation channels, it worked fine :) ...
